Heartbreak As Lucas Leiva Ruled Out For 3 Months
Liverpool have been dealt a huge blow after manager Brendan Rodgers confirmed midfielder Lucas Leiva has been ruled out for up to 3 months with a thigh injury.
Liverpool have been dealt a huge blow with the news that midfielder Lucas Leiva has been ruled out for 3 months with a thigh injury.
The Brazilian missed the entire second half of last season with a serious knee injury and has worked tirelessly to get back to full fitness in time for the new season.
However, Leiva felt a twinge in his thigh during the warm up prior to Sunday’s 2-2 draw with Man City at Anfield and was forced off just 5 minutes into the game.
Speaking at his press conference ahead of Thursday nights Europa League second leg with Hearts, Rodgers confirmed Leiva will be sidelined for up to 3 months with a thigh injury.
“It is very unfortunate. He has worked ever so hard to come back and he has been an outstanding player for me and person off the field as well.
“The indications are two to three months. It is quite a unique injury at the top of his right thigh.
“He has had a scan and we will see a specialist this evening. We’ll see if it needs an operation or whether it is just recuperation.”

Lucas also took to Twitter to express his disappointment at the news, Tweeting on his official account:
“No words to describe my feelings at the moment. It is been hard to be positive but I am sure better days will come. YNWA.”
Liverpool are now likely to give loan signing Nuri Sahin his debut on Sunday against Arsenal, while it may mean Jay Spearings proposed move to Bolton will now be delayed.
