Goalkeeper Plays Down Liverpool Transfer Reports
Wigan Athletic stopper Ali Al-Habsi has distanced himself from rumours linking him with a January move to Liverpool by insisting he’s happy to remain at Wigan
Despite the transfer window being closed, there is always transfer gossip doing the rounds in the papers and we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest news during the coming months. Today, Ali Al-Habsi dismisses exit rumours.
Wigan stopper Ali Al-Habsi has distanced himself from rumours linking him with a January move to Liverpool by insisting he’s happy to remain at Wigan, according to the Daily Mail.
The goalkeeper’s stock has risen over the past couple of seasons with a string of consistent displays, leading to him becoming an important member of Roberto Di Matteo’s starting eleven following his move from Bolton in 2010.
By contrast, Liverpool first choice keeper Pepe Reina has suffered an alarming dip in form over the past 12 months and this has led to speculation suggesting manager Brendan Rodgers could be readying a move for Al-Habsi when the transfer window re-opens in January, as he looks for some reliable competition for the Spaniard.
However, the 30-year-old has moved to play down reports linking him with a move to Anfield insisting he isn’t looking for a move away from the DW Stadium.
‘I heard about what was said at the weekend but that kind of thing is not of any importance to me,’
‘I am very, very happy at Wigan – as has been the case since I first came here. I am doing well, my form is coming on with every game I play, and my confidence is very high.
‘All I want to do is concentrate on my job here and to help the team, because there is lots of work to be done. The most important thing for any professional is to enjoy what they are doing and that goes for football as much as anything.’
If you enjoy what you’re doing then you are able to do your job right, and that has always been the case at Wigan.’
Al-Habsi is quoted as saying by the Daily Mail.

Wigan have found some form in recent weeks after a terrible start to the season, but an impressive 1-0 win over Tottenham at White Hart Lane on Saturday moved the Latics level on points with Liverpool in to 13th position in the league.
