Manchester United were knocked out of the Champions League in controversial circumstances on Tuesday night with Real Madrid going through to the quarter finals 3-2 on aggregate, but only after Nani was sent off for a high kick on defender Arbeloa.
With United leading the tie 2-1 on aggregate, the Portuguese winger was given his marching orders for catching Arbeloa with a high boot early in the second half. Madrid went on to win the game 2-1, 3-2 on aggregate, but the big talking point after the game centred on Nani’s sending off. (You can watch all the goals here)
Former United midfielder Roy Keane said after the game it was the right call, but most other pundits agree it was extremely harsh decision. See for yourself, was this a sending off?

Nani’s leg went too high. The referee took the right decision. No doubts about it.

NANI made a mistake by pretending on the ground after kicking Arbeola,he should have stand up on time and bring the guy up then the refree will show mercy……infact is the right decission ,No controlversy he should have given him two or three red card if allowed”kicking somone on the left chest or right chest is killing.

In my opinion it was the right call. Try to visualize the same play with Arbeloa trying a header instead of chest control. Maybe Arbeloa would be in the hospital or worse. Nani goes with the leg hard and up and when he feels contact he pushes forward with his leg. This type of play should not be allowed. Period. It is only Nani to be blamed for.
