Some interesting news coming from the Express newspaper today as they’re reporting that Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is lining up a triple swoop on Barcelona at the end of the season.

The report claims the boss will be given up to £70m to spend this summer to rejuvenate our flagging squad with and it seems he’s ready to make some big moves in the transfer market by targetting former midfielder Alex Song, defender Martin Montoya and attacker Alexis Sanchez from Barca.

The most exciting of the three is Chilean winger Sanchez who was one of the most sought after players in the world when he joined the Catalans from Udinese in 2011. He enjoyed an excellent debut season in Spain but has since fallen down the pecking order and Udinese sporting director Fabrizio Larini said recently that Arsenal would be the ‘ideal’ move for the 24-year-old.

I’d love to see him come to Arsenal but you’d have to question whether we’d be prepared to spend the money it would surely require to land the exciting attacker, despite talk of a ‘£70m warchest’.

Song would be an interesting one. While I think we’re in desperate need of a defensive midfielder I’m not sure he’s the best option out there. He seemed to leave us under a bit of a cloud last summer with unconfirmed reports suggested Arsene Wenger had grown tired of his poor attitude in training. If true, it would be difficult to see the Cameroonian making a return to the club any time soon unless he promised to change his ways.

Montoya is a young right back and with Bacary Sagna’s future in doubt, a new right-sided defender could be on the cards this summer and the 21-year-old Spaniard would be a decent option. But I see Carl Jenkinson as our first choice right back next season so anyone who does come in may have to make do with playing second fiddle.
