Arsenal Lining Up Williams Bid But Face Competition From Liverpool
Arsenal are stepping up their interest in Swansea City defender Ashley Williams and will go head-to-head with Liverpool for the players signature this summer.
Despite the transfer window being closed there is still plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Arsenal are ready to move for Ashley Williams.
Arsenal are stepping up their interest in Swansea City defender Ashley Williams and will go head-to-head with Liverpool for his signature this summer, according to the Daily Mail.
Williams has been excellent at the back for Swansea over the past 18 months and has helped the Welsh outfit cement themselves as an established Premier League team since winning promotion in 2011. Williams has become one of the League’s most consistent defenders and lead the Swans to the League Cup last month, beating Bradford 5-0 at Wembley in the final.
However, it seems Michael Laudrup will have his work cut out trying to hang on to the 28-year-old this summer with the Mail claiming Arsenal are pressing ahead with a move for the commanding centre-back with boss Arsene Wenger understood to be keen on signing defensive reinforcements at the end of the season.
The report suggests that Wenger will follow up his interest with a bid this summer but will face stiff competition from Liverpool, with boss Brendan Rodgers eager to be reunited with his former skipper as he looks to find a replacement for the retiring Jamie Carragher.
