Juventus Table £18.5m Bid For Arsenal Target Jovetic
Juventus have submitted an £18.5million bid for one of Arsenal’s top summer transfer targets – Fiorentina striker Stevan Jovetic, according to the Express.
With the summer transfer window set to re-open, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Juventus bid for Arsenal target Stevan Jovetic.
Juventus have submitted an £18.5m bid for one of Arsenal’s top summer transfer targets, Stevan Jovetic, according to the Express.
With boss Arsene Wenger understood to be keen on signing a new striker this summer, we’ve been linked with a whole host of names in recent weeks. Just days ago, reports in Spain claimed we’d struck an £18m deal to sign Gonzalo Huguain from Real Madrid as long as we qualify for the Champions League while Fiorentina’s Jovetic is also said to be a top target.
However, it seems we’re going to face some stiff competition if we want to sign the 23-year-old Montenegrin striker with the Express reporting that Serie A champions Juventus have made their move to try and lure him to Turin by submitting an £18.5m bid.
The newspaper suggests the approach has been turned down with Fiorentina believed to be holding out for a fee nearer £24m, but Juve are expected to go back in with another offer which may involve including out-of-favour striker Alessandro Matri in the deal.
Offering a ready-made replacement for Jovetic is a good way to sway the deal in our favour. Perhaps we could offer them Bendtner or Chamakh?! On the other hand, Fiorentina may prefer a straight cash deal so they can go and buy a replacement of their own choosing, so he may simply be sold to the highest bidder.
Wenger is understood to have the money this summer to make some big-name signings, especially if we qualify for the Champions League, so it’s shaping up to be an interesting few months. Personally, I’d prefer to see Huguain move to north London than Jovetic as I think he’s proven it at a higher level already and his goal-scoring record is far better, but as long as the boss is strengthening the squad in the right areas, I’ll be happy.
