Gonzalo Higuain Is Determined To Push Through Move, Claims Father
The father of Arsenal target Gonzalo Higuain claims he will leave Real Madrid due to problems over a new contract and revealed he has held talks with Juventus.
With the summer transfer window now open, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Gonzalo Higuain is determined to leave Madrid.
The father of Arsenal target Gonzalo Higuain claims his son is determined to leave Real Madrid this summer due to broken promises over a new contract but revealed the striker has already held talks over a potential move to Juventus, according to ESPN.
The report claims the Argentinean hitman made it clear after Madrid’s final game of the season that he wanted to leave the Bernabeu this summer for a club that appreciated him, with Arsenal and Juventus believed to be the front-runners.
Now the players father, Jorge, has also told reporters in Spain that his son wants to leave the Spanish giants due to Madrid’s conduct and claims the 25-year-old striker has already spoken with Juventus through agent Ernesto Bronzetti about a potential move to Turin:
“We had contact through a friend of the [Juve] president, [agent Ernesto] Bronzetti. He looks after the market. I suppose he spoke with them. The clubs must first talk with Madrid and start the negotiation. [Gonzalo] wants to go to a team who recognise him and appreciate him. We want a team who is in Europe.” Jorge Higuain is quoted as saying by ESPN.
Higuain is understood to have three years left to run on his current contract but his father also lifted the lid on negotiations over an extension and claims Madrid have failed to follow through with promises made about a new deal and insists his son has never been made to feel appreciated at the Bernabeu during his seven years there. He continued:
“With Mourinho, my son and [director] Jose Angel Sanchez. They promised they would do everything so that [Gonzalo] was happy. There was another with Mou, Jose Angel and me. And a third with me and Florentino.
“A year and this was not fulfilled. We have not said anything. Ten days I go I said it again to Jose Angel in a meeting. I do not know if he told the president. I was surprised he has got angry because this has been coming. There are no strategies, this is football and he just wants a change of environment. We never want to leave through the back door, just for things to be clear.”
“In seven years [Gonzalo] never felt protected as he deserved. He has been attacked directly by a sector of the Spanish sporting press, he never had protection from anybody, only the goals he scored. Whatever good he did was minimised, the bad was exaggerated.”
While it’s obviously good news for Arsenal that Higuain is determined to push through a move this summer, it’s concerning that he already seems to be in talks with Juventus and his father made no reference to us as a possible destination.
A proven goal-scorer is desperately needed this summer and there aren’t many out there with the quality of Higuain who is available and would be open to moving to the Emirates, so I say Arsene Wenger needs to go all-out to land him before Juventus beat us to it.
