Higuain Deal In Doubt? Real Madrid Deny Any Agreement With Arsenal
Gonzalo Higuain’s move to Arsenal took another twist today with Marca claiming Real Madrid have denied there is an agreement with Arsenal for the striker.
With the summer transfer window now open, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, another update on Gonzalo Higuain’s move to Arsenal.
Gonzalo Higuain’s protracted move to Arsenal took yet another twist today with Spanish newspaper Marca claiming that Real Madrid have denied there is an agreement in place with Arsenal for the striker.
After weeks of speculation and negotiations, numerous media outlets reported on Thursday that we’d agreed a £23m fee with the Spanish giants and Higuain would be heading to London in the coming days to undergo a medical and complete his move to the Emirates Stadium. We all thought it was just a matter of time until Higuain was an Arsenal player with some even hopeful it could be announced on Friday.
However, it seems we’ve jumped the gun slightly with Madrid-based newspaper Marca – who are believed to have close connections with the club – reporting this morning that they’ve had word from Madrid to confirm that no deal has been agreed and in fact Arsenal are yet to table a formal offer, and the Argentinean is closer to staying at the Bernabeu than moving to north London.
The report also claims it would take an offer in excess of the £23m to persuade Real into selling the 25-year-old, and new boss Carlo Ancelotti is open to the idea of him staying at the club.
Quite the turn of events. Now before we get too excited, it’s worth remembering who’s reporting this and what their agenda could be. If Madrid have purposely ‘leaked’ this information out through Marca, then it’s more than likely just a negotiating ploy to try and force us into upping our offer or even seeing if they could get other interested clubs involved again.
What it may mean though, is that we haven’t yet agreed a fee, which is worrying in itself considering all the recent reports to the contrary. I would still expect Higuain to be an Arsenal player, eventually, but it seems it may be a few more days before it’s officially announced. Stay patient Gooners!
