City Set To Seal £28m Jovetic Deal After Seeing Off Late Hijack Attempt From Rivals
Manchester United failed with a late attempt to try and hijack Manchester City’s move for Stevan Jovetic with the striker expected to complete a £28m move.
With the summer transfer window now open, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Manchester City are set to win the race for Stevan Jovetic.
Manchester United failed with a late attempt to try and hijack Manchester City’s move for Stevan Jovetic with the striker expected to complete a £28m move to the Etihad Stadium, according to the Mirror.
The Montenegrin international has been one of the most talked about players so far in the summer transfer window with the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Juventus all strongly linked with a move in recent weeks. However, potential deals to all three clubs fell through after they struggled to strike a deal with Fiorentina and it appears Manchester City have now won the race for one of the most coveted strikers in Europe.
The Mirror claim that City boss Manuel Pellegrini has pushed hard to secure the 23-year-old’s signature and a £28m deal was all-but sealed after lengthy talks with the player and his representatives this week.
The report suggests that the Eastlanders also had to fight off a late hijack attempt from rivals Manchester United, with David Moyes believed to have sanctioned a last minute move to try and prise Jovetic out of City’s grasp.
But the move was in vain with the newspaper reporting that the highly-rated forward is now expected to sign a five-year deal worth £80,000-a-week after being convinced of City’s project following talks with City sporting director Txiki Begiristain and his agent Fali Ramadani on Wednesday evening.
Joveitc’s signing will be something of a coup for City and Pellegrini will be pleased to have got one over his rivals so early on in his career at the Etihad. However, it’s still worth remembering that this is still all paper talk and until something official comes from either club, anything can still happen.
