By on November 8, 2013

Arsenal travel north to take on Manchester United on Sunday afternoon looking to extend their lead at the top of the table.

The Gunners head into the weekend sitting five points clear of Chelsea and a full eight ahead of United, so have the opportunity to not only put a huge dent the in the champions title defence, but also make a real statement of intent that they are genuine title contenders themselves this season.

Ahead of the game, boss Arsene Wenger has been speaking to the media and gave a team news and injury update with the latest on the fitness of Mathieu Flamini and Jack Wilshere.

Flamini has been on the sidelines in recent weeks after injuring his groin against Crystal Palace but was back in training today and Wenger is confident he’ll be in the squad for Sunday’s game.

Fellow midfielder Wilshere was forced to miss the wins over Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund with an ankle injury picked up last week in training, but he was working with the rest of the squad on Friday and his fitness will be assessed before the Arsenal boss makes a decision over his involvement this weekend.

Here’s what Arsene told the clubs official website:

on the team news…

Normally, Flamini will join us in the session this morning. Wilshere will join in as well, so we will see how they are after the session today.

on their chances of playing on Sunday…

Flamini, I am quite confident will be fully available. Wilshere, we will see how he responds to his inflammation of the ankle.

The team I will like to see against man u. One the first team keeper, the four back, Sagna, Mertersacker, Koscielny and Kibbs, then, Flamini and Ramsey, followed by Rosisky, Ozil and Cazola and then Giroud, who has no one challenging him in that possition. With this team man u will be giving a good fight.
