Liverpool have have offered an update on the fitness of Daniel Agger after the defender picked up a knock during Sunday’s FA Cup third round win over Oldham.
Liverpool have have offered an update on the fitness of Daniel Agger after the defender picked up a knock during Sunday’s FA Cup third round win over Oldham Athletic.
The Danish international was forced off inside the opening 15 minutes during the Reds 2-0 win at Anfield with what appeared to be a calf problem.
After the game Brendan Rodgers said he was hopefully it was nothing serious and the Merseysiders sent the 29-year-old off to have scans on Tuesday.
The club have now got the initial results back and released a statement on Liverpool.com confirming that the centre-back has suffered a calf strain.
Agger will be undergo further assessment to determine the full extent of the injury but he is certain to miss this Sunday’s trip to the Britannia Stadium to face Stoke City and could be set for a couple of weeks on the sidelines.
The news will come as a blow to Rodgers, who was slowly getting his squad back together following a number of injuries to key personnel in recent weeks.
