Arsenal Officials Set To Hold Talks Over €45m Double Swoop
Arsenal have sent officials over to Germany to hold talks over a double swoop for Schalke attacker Julian Draxler and Frankfurt defender Sebastian Jung.
With the January transfer window in full flow clubs are working hard to try and strengthen their squad for the second half of the season, so we’ll keep you up-to-date with all the latest news, gossip and rumours. Today, Arsenal set their sights on two signings this week.
It’s going to be a busy week in north London with reports suggesting Arsenal have sent officials over to Germany to hold talks over a double swoop for Schalke attacker Julian Draxler and Frankfurt defender Sebastian Jung.
The Draxler rumours hit fever-pitch over the weekend with speculation emerging from Germany claiming that a deal had finally been agreed between Arsenal and Schalke.
However, while those reports appear wide of the mark after the clubs General Manager Horst Heldt insisted there was no agreement with Arsenal, that could soon change with Goal claiming that we will send a delegation over to Germany early this week to try and negotiate a deal with Arsene Wenger ready to spend €36.5m (£30m) on the 20-year-old.
That bid would still fall short of Draxler’s €45m (£37m) buy-out clause and the report suggests that Schalke would also want to have a replacement in place before any deal would be finalised, so there is still someway to go before this is tied up.
Hopefully we can get this one over the line before the transfer window closes on Friday night as Draxler would be an excellent addition to the squad and he could turn out to be our new ‘RVP’ if reports of Wenger turning him into a striker are proved accurate.
His signing could be part of a double swoop on the Bundesliga with Arsenal also understood to be ready to hold talks with Frankfurt over the signing of right-back Sebastian Jung.
Goal believe that Wenger has identified the 23-year-old as a potential replacement for Bacary Sagna and could be ready to meet the clubs €8.5m (£7m) valuation as contract talks with the Frenchman continue to stall.
Sagna’s contract expires in the summer and no agreement over an extension has been reached as yet, so it’s understandable that Wenger is starting to think about potential replacements and it appears Jung is the latest player to catch his eye.
I’d still love to see Sagna pen an extension and commit his future to the club because I feel he’s a vastly under-rated member of our squad, but the longer these talks drag out the more it looks like he could be off at the end of the season.
