Arsenal Could Be Set To Lose Another First Team Player To Manchester City
Arsenal could be set to lose yet another first team player to Manchester City with Manuel Pellegrini eyeing a summer move for one of the Gunners key players.
With the January transfer window in full flow clubs are working hard to try and strengthen their squad for the second half of the season, so we’ll keep you up-to-date with all the latest news, gossip and rumours. Today, could Bacary Sagna be heading to Man City?
Arsenal could be about to lose yet another first team player to Manchester City with Manuel Pellegrini eyeing a summer swoop for contract rebel Bacary Sagna, according to the Daily Star.
The Frenchman is out of contract in the summer and talks over a new deal have stalled leading to speculation he could be set to end his seven-year stay at the Emirates.
There have been widespread reports suggesting that PSG, Monaco and Galatasaray are ready to try and tempt the 30-year-old away from England with four-year deals worth £120,000-a-week after tax, but Arsene Wenger has insisted Arsenal are still working hard to try and secure Sagna’s future.
However, it seems the Gunners now face more competition with the Star claiming that Manchester City are set to throw their hat into the ring and will use their financial fire-power to try and keep the right-back in the Premier League.
The newspaper states that Sagna has become ‘deeply upset’ at the way Arsenal’s hierarchy have failed to reward his loyalty over the years as he’s turned down big-money moves away to stay in north London, despite watching a whole host of first team players jump ship in search of trophies.
Should City be successful in luring Sagna to Manchester this summer, he will become the fifth player in recent years to leave Arsenal for the Etihad, following in the foot-steps of Kolo Toure, Samir Nasri, Emmanuel Adebayor and Gael Clichy, while the likes of Robin van Persie, Cesc Fabregas and Alex Song have also left for pastures new.
Sagna’s future is certainly becoming a big problem for Arsenal as he’s one of the clubs most consistent performers week-in, week-out, and Wenger won’t find it easy to replace the experienced defender.
Carl Jenkinson is still raw so you’d think they would need to bring in a more established name to take over the first team spot and while they’ve been linked with a number of right-backs in recent months, replacing a player like Sagna is going to be a big task if Wenger find’s himself in the situation where he has to at the end of the season and it would rub salt into the wound if the Frenchman opted to follow some of his former team-mates to City,
