Rodgers Confirms Defender Will Miss Title Run-In With On-Going Injury
Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that defender Jose Enrique will miss the rest of the season after struggling to overcome an ongoing knee problem
Liverpool continue their charge towards the Premier League title when they take on West Ham at Upton Park on Sunday afternoon.
Ahead of the game, manager Brendan Rodgers has been speaking at his pre-match press conference on Friday afternoon and gave reporters a team news and injury update.
The good news is that the Reds have no fresh injury concerns so the squad is in excellent health as they gear up for whats promises to be an enthralling last six games.
However, Rodgers did confirm that stricken defender Jose Enrique is unlikely to play again this season after struggling to recover from a serious knee problem.
The Spaniard has been on the sidelines since November after it was decided they would operate to try and finally cure an on-going knee injury once and for all. He underwent surgery and even spent time in the US to aid his rehabilitation as he initially targetted a return in February.
But the injury has proven more troublesome than first thought and Rodgers has revealed that the former Newcastle full-back will miss the title run-in and his priority now is to make sure he’s fit in time for next season.
The Liverpool boss told reporters:
“The likelihood is he will miss from now until the end of the season,” said the Reds boss.

In Enrique’s absence, youngster Jon Flanagan has been impressing at left-back and looks set to continue to deputise as the Reds head to Upton Park looking to at least maintain their lead at the top of the Premier League, with the Merseysiders currently holding a two-point advantage over Chelsea.
