Arsenal are ready to match Manchester United’s proposed £20m bid Sami Khedira after Real Madrid make it clear the German midfielder can leave this summer, according to reports today.
Khedira has been a key player for Madrid over the last four years following a move from Stuttgart in 2010 and after being virtually ever-present in previous seasons, he missed the vast majority of last year with a serious knee injury.
In his absence, Luka Modric struck up an impressive partnership with Xabi Alonso at the heart of Carlo Ancelotti’s side and it seems his time out of the team has convinced the Madrid boss he is no longer an important part of his plans.
The Express cite reports coming from Spanish outlet El Confidencial who claim the Italian coach has called off planned contract extension talks and made it clear to Khedira he is free to find a new club this summer as wants to cash-in as quickly as possible to help fund a big-money move for either Paul Pogba, Ramires or Arturo Vidal.
The German’s availability has now alerted two of the Premier League big hitters with the newspaper suggesting that Manchester United and Arsenal are ready to go head-to-head over the 26-year-old’s signature this summer.
New United boss Louis van Gaal is expected to be busy in the transfer market this summer as he looks to rebuild the squad he inherited from David Moyes and the report states the Dutchman has made Khedira a key target and is ready to test Madrid’s resolve with a £20m offer
However, the deposed champions are going to have to fend off stiff competition from rivals Arsenal as the Gunners have been strongly linked with the German international in recent weeks and the Express claims that boss Arsene Wenger is ready to match any offer United make in the hope of persuading Khedira to opt for a switch to the Emirates over Old Trafford.

The English duo will be able to negotiate a deal with Madrid and possibly even hold talks with Khedira’s agent over the coming weeks, however any potential deal would most likely have to wait until after the World Cup as the player is currently over in Brazil trying to help Joachim Loew’s German squad bring back the trophy.
Khedira would be an excellent addition for either Arsenal or United and it’s going to be interesting to see if either club are able to lure him to the Premier League this summer if he does end up leaving Madrid.
