Castro Confirms Liverpool Interest In €25m-Rated Tottenham Target
Sevilla’s Jose Costro has confirmed Liverpool’s interest in Tottenham target Alberto Moreno but they will only sell the defender if their asking price is met
As we approach the opening of the summer window clubs will be intensifying their efforts in the transfer market so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, more on the future of Alberto Moreno.
Sevilla president Jose Costro has confirmed Liverpool’s interest in Tottenham target Alberto Moreno but denied any formal talks have taken place and warned they will only sell the defender if their asking price is met, according to reports today.
Liverpool have been strongly linked with Moreno in recent weeks and speculation earlier this month suggested that the Reds were close to agreeing a deal for the 21-year-old, with some reports even claiming the player was set to travel to Merseyside to discuss personal terms and complete a medical.
Those reports turned out to be wide of the mark and soon Tottenham were also being linked with a move for the Spanish international, with new boss Mauricio Pochettino seemingly keen to try and hijack Liverpool’s attempts to bring him to the Premier League.
Sevilla president Jose Costro has now had his say on the situation and although he has confirmed there is interest in Moreno, namely from Liverpool, he insists that no formal talks have taken place and the player will only be sold if their asking price is met.
“It’s true that there is interest from a number of clubs, above all Liverpool, in him, but we haven’t had proper conversations about selling him,”
“Signing any player from this club has a price and we will decide that price. If Alberto Moreno has to stay at the club he will stay but if a club pays the amount we think is big enough for him to leave, he will leave. But there is no pressure.
“We haven’t reached an agreement, but talks haven’t broken down. We’ll wait and see what happens. If Liverpool are interested in the player and pay the right amount, he will be sold.” Castro is quoted as saying by the Express
Reports vary on what Sevilla’s asking price is set at but the Express suggest it’s €25m and it remains to be seen whether Liverpool or Tottenham will be willing to pay that kind of money for the youngster.
Moreno is certainly an exciting prospect and he was huge impressive last season, playing a key role in helping Sevilla lift the Europa League as well as securing a fifth place finish in the La Liga table.

Brendan Rodgers is on the look out for a left-back to compete with Jose Enrique and Jon Flanagan next season while Mauricio Pochettino is also understood to be keen on bringing in a new left-sided defender to replace the inconsistent Benoit Assou-Ekotto at White Hart Lane, and Moreno would be an excellent signing for either club if they can agree a deal with Sevilla.
