Chelsea have made a €20m (£16m) bid for Emmanuel Emenike with the Fenerbahce striker ‘dreaming’ of playing in the Premier League, according to reports.
Blues boss Jose Mourinho made no secret of his desire to change-up his strike-force this summer after criticising his current forwards last season, saying he didn’t have any ‘real strikers’ at his disposal despite having Fernando Torres, Demba Ba and Samuel Eto’o at the club.
Widespread reports claim that Spain striker Diego Costa is heading to Chelsea in a £32m deal from Atletico Madrid but it appears Mourinho is also looking to bring in another forward this summer and Emenike has emerged as a key target.
The Express are one of several newspapers who are reporting today that Chelsea have launched a move for the Nigerian hitman and have tested Fenerbahce’s resolve with a €20m (£16m) bid.
The 27-year-old only moved to Turkey a year ago from Spartak Moscow and scored 12 goals and provided 9 assists in 28 appearances last season. It remains to be seem whether Chelsea’s offer will be enough to persuade Fenerbahce to cash-in but if a deal can be agreed between the two clubs, it appears Emenike will jump at the chance of moving to England.
“I have always dreamed of playing in England.
“If I get the opportunity to play in England – I wouldn’t turn it down.” Emenike is quoted as saying by the Express
Emenike is currently over in Brazil and helped guide Nigeria into the knockout stages of the World Cup, despite a 3-2 defeat to Argentina on Wednesday night, so it’s likely any potential deal will have to wait until the Nigerians are knocked out of the tournament – which could come as early as Monday when they take on an impressive French side in the last 16.

The powerful striker would certainly add some physicality to the Chelsea squad and no doubt he’ll attract a few comparisons to Didier Drogba, but he’s got a long way to go before he surpasses what the Ivorian achieved at Stamford Bridge.

Emenike would be a better option for chelsea than R.lukaku.
