Arsenal Make €30m Bid For Top Chelsea Target
Arsenal have made a €30m offer to Real Madrid for Chelsea target Sami Khedira and Mesut Ozil is trying to convince his compatriot to join him at the Emirates
The summer transfer window is now open for business and it’s expected to be a busy few weeks as managers strengthen their squads ahead of next season, so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Arsenal bid for Sami Khedira.
Arsenal have made a €30m offer to Real Madrid for top Chelsea target Sami Khedira and Mesut Ozil is trying to convince his compatriot to join him at the Emirates, according to reports in Spain.
Khedira has been a regular for Madrid since joining the club from Stuttgart four years ago but a serious knee injury saw him miss the majority of the second half of last season and in his absence, Luka Modric formed an excellent partnership alongside Xabi Alonso in midfield.
This has led to speculation suggesting that Carlo Ancelotti is now ready to cash-in on the Germany international, and Arsenal and Chelsea have been strongly linked with a move for the 27-year-old in recent weeks.
Jose Mourinho was the one who signed Khedira for Madrid back in 2010 and reports have suggested the Portuguese coach is keen to be reunited with the midfielder at Stamford Bridge with the Blues needing to bring in a replacement for David Luiz.
However, Arsene Wenger is also on the look-out for a long-term replacement for Mikel Arteta and it appears the Gunners have now stolen a march on their London rivals with Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo claiming they have tabled a €30m offer for Khedira.
The paper suggests that Madrid are willing to sell to make room for the arrival of Toni Kroos from Bayern Munich, while Mesut Ozil is understood to be doing his best to try and persuade his long-term friend and former Madrid team-mate to join him at the Emirates.
The pair are currently in Brazil with the Germany squad preparing for tomorrow’s World Cup quarter final clash with France, so Ozil has had plenty of time to convince Khedira his future should be in north London next season.
Whether Arsenal’s €30m offer will be accepted by Real remains to be seen but it seems more than fair when you consider the midfielder has just entered the final year of his contract at the Bernabeu.

It will be interesting to see how Chelsea respond to the Gunners offer but I wouldn’t be surprised if Mourinho came in with a bid of his own over the coming days. Khedira would be a good fit for either club and he has all the characteristics needed to be a success in the Premier League. All that remains is to see who he’ll be lining-up for next season….
