Arsenal Beat Chelsea To Land €29m Khedira After Agreeing Terms Over 4-Year Deal
Arsenal have beaten Chelsea to the signing of Sami Khedira with the German ace set to sign a four-year deal after a €29m fee was agreed with Real Madrid.
The summer transfer window is now open for business and it’s expected to be a busy few weeks as managers strengthen their squads ahead of next season, so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Arsenal are in for Sami Khedira.
Arsenal have beaten Chelsea to the signing of Sami Khedira with reports in Spain claiming that the German international will sign a four-year deal after the Gunners agreed a €29m fee with Real Madrid.
There has been growing speculation in recent weeks suggesting Khedira – who has just one year remaining on his current deal – will leave Madrid this summer after turning down the Spanish giants latest contract extension offer.
While Arsenal have been tipped as front-runners for the 27-year-old’s signature by many newspapers, reports over the weekend suggested that Chelsea were hoping to pull off a late hijack and lure the midfielder to Stamford Bridge.
Jose Mourinho is in the market for another midfielder to replace David Luiz – who spent much of his time sitting in front of the defence last season – and it’s understood the Portuguese coach was keen on being reunited with Khedira having managed him during his time in Spain.
However, after we brought you news on Sunday that Arsenal were in advanced talks to sign Khedira, it appears the Gunners have now managed to wrap up a deal as Spanish newspaper Sport are claiming that the German international will move to the Emirates ‘in the coming hours’ after a €29m fee was agreed between the two clubs.
The outlet states that Khedira will sign a four-year deal worth in the region of £150,000-a-week and opted for Arsenal after speaking with compatriot’s Mesut Ozil, Per Mertesacker and Lukas Podolski about what life is like in north London.
If true, this will be another sensational deal by Arsene Wenger following on from the signing of Alexis Sanchez last week and be a major statement of intent by the club that they mean business this summer.
