Podolski Drops Major Hint That Khedira Wants Arsenal Move
Lukas Podolski has dropped a major hint that Sami Khedira is keen on moving to the Emirates, saying he didn’t have to convince the player to join Arsenal
The summer transfer window is now open for business and it’s expected to be a busy few weeks as managers strengthen their squads ahead of next season, so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Gooner Mac brings us more news on Sami Khedira.
Arsenal attacker Lukas Podolski has dropped a major hint that Sami Khedira is keen on moving to the Emirates this summer after saying he didn’t have to convince the midfielder to join him in north London, according to reports.
Khedira has been tipped for a move this summer after rejecting a contract extension at Real Madrid as with just one year remaining on his current deal, the La Liga giants would rather cash-in now rather than risk losing him for nothing in 12 months time.
This has led to intense speculation linking the 27-year-old with a move to Arsenal in recent weeks, with reports earlier this month suggesting that we were in advanced talks with Madrid about a potential €29m deal.
The speculation has died down over the past few days after it emerged that Khedira was demanding excessive wages, but it seems the German international remains keen on linking up with his compatriot’s in north London as Lukas Podolski has claimed he didn’t have to try and convince the midfielder to join Arsenal as he already knows how much fun he’d have with his fellow World Cup winners at the Emirates.
“I didn’t have to [try to convince Khedira to join Arsenal].
“Sami knows how much fun he could have with me, Mesut [Ozil] and Per [Mertesacker] at Arsenal.
“We had a great time together at the World Cup and I would like it very much if he comes to London.”
Our German trio spent a lot of time with Khedira during the World Cup and no doubt they all spoke at length about life at Arsenal amid all the transfer speculation, and it appears the midfielder made it obvious he would be open to the switch.
Khedira would certainly be a sensational signing for Arsenal if we could pull it off as he’d bring some much-needed physicality and strength to the middle of the park next season.
Madrid have recently wrapped up deals for James Rodriguez and Toni Kroos so you’d expect they’ll sell a couple of players to balance the books, and Khedira is one of the most likely to be deemed surplus to requirements unless he commits his future to the club by signing a new deal.

However, it seems as though any potential deal to bring him to Arsenal is at deadlock if he doesn’t lower his wage demands, so we’re just going to have to wait and see how things develop over the coming weeks.
