Arsenal Linked With Audacious Move For Unsettled Liverpool Ace
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is lining-up an audacious move for unsettled Liverpool defender Daniel Agger as a replacement for Thomas Vermaelen, so say reports.
The summer transfer window is now well under way and managers are working hard to strengthen their squads ahead of next season, so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Arsenal are linked with Liverpool’s Daniel Agger.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is lining-up an audacious move for unsettled Liverpool defender Daniel Agger, according to reports today.
The Danish international has fallen out-of-favour at Anfield over the past 6 months and his place has come under even more threat following the arrival of Dejan Lovren from Southampton.
The uncertainty over his future has led to intense speculation the 29-year-old will be on the move and Agger himself admitted at the end of last season that he’ll have to consider his future this summer.
“It is no secret that I had problems last season and I am considering things,” Agger said.
“How things turned out last season is not sustainable for me. I am here now and it is up to me to show the coach that I should play.” Agger is quoted as saying by the Daily Star.
Barcelona have been strongly linked in recent weeks while former club Brondby have also expressed an interest, with chairman Jan Bech Andersen admitting last week that he would do everything possible to bring Agger back to Denmark.
However, it looks like Arsenal are now ready to enter the chase with the Daily Star claiming that Arsene Wenger has identified Agger as a potential replacement for Thomas Vermaelen.
The Belgian international lost his place in Wenger’s starting eleven 18 months ago and with just 12 months remaining on his current deal, the 28-year-old is expected to move on to resurrect his career elsewhere.
Manchester United have been strongly linked with Vermaelen in recent week but coincidentally, so have Barcelona. The Gunners understandably would rather sell abroad so if they could agree a deal to sell their skipper to the Catalans, then it could pave the way for Agger to move to the Emirates.

However, it’s also unlikely that Liverpool would consider selling to a domestic rival, so it’s going to be interesting to see how all this plays out. Vermaelen is expected to hold talks with Wenger about his future over the coming days so we should know more by the end of the week, but I’d be hugely surprised if Agger turns out to be the man to replace the Belgian at the Emirates.
