German Ace Holds Talks With Chelsea & Man Utd But Wenger Plans Deadline Day Move
Chelsea and Man Utd have held talks with Sami Khedira but Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is planning a deadline day swoop for the Real Madrid midfielder.
The summer transfer window is now well under way and managers are working hard to strengthen their squads ahead of next season, so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Arsenal, Man Utd and Chelsea are all linked with Sami Khedira.
Chelsea and Manchester United have held talks with Sami Khedira about a potential move this summer but Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is planning a deadline day swoop for the Real Madrid midfielder, according to reports in Spain.
Khedira has just one year remaining on his €3m-per-season deal at the Bernabeu and so far he’s rejected Madrid’s offer of a new deal that would include a €1.5m a year pay rise, with reports suggesting the 27-year-old is holding out for a bumper deal worth €7m-per-year after tax.
The uncertainty over his future has seen the German international strongly linked with a move to Arsenal with speculation last month suggesting the Gunners had agreed a fee with Madrid, but the proposed move stalled after they baulked at the players wage demands.
It seems the North Londoners weren’t the only ones showing an interest as Spanish newspaper Sport claims that Chelsea and Man Utd have also held talks with the players camp, but they too refused to offer the kind of salary the midfielder is asking for.
The newspaper report claims that Madrid have made it clear to the World Cup winner that he has two options; sign a new deal on their terms or leave this summer, so unless he lowers his demands, it looks like he will be on the move before the end of the month.
It remains to be seen whether the Blues or United will renew their interest before the summer is out, but Sport suggest that Arsene Wenger is now planning to hold out until the final few days of the window before making a late move to try and lure Khedira to the Emirates.
It seems the Frenchman hopes to bring down the asking price – believed to be in the region of €25m – while he also anticipates Khedira will be forced to lower his demands in order to secure a move away from Madrid.

It’s certainly a shrewd move by the wiley Gunners boss but it’s also a dangerous game as he could end up missing out on the players signature altogether, so Gunners fans will be hoping he has a back-up plan in place because they desperately need a dominant midfielder if they have any hopes of landing the title this season.
