Arsenal & Chelsea Ready To Make Late Move For Bargain World Cup Winner
Arsenal and Chelsea have been handed a major boost in their pursuit of Sami Khedira with AS reporting that Madrid have lowered their price for the midfielder.
The summer transfer window is now well under way and managers are working hard to strengthen their squads ahead of next season, so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Arsenal and Chelsea have been handed a major boost in their pursuit of Sami Khedira.
Arsenal and Chelsea have been handed a major boost in their pursuit of Sami Khedira with AS reporting that Real Madrid have lowered their asking price for the midfielder.
Both London clubs have been strongly linked with a move for the German international in recent months after it emerged that he had turned down a contract extension offer from Madrid.
Reports initially suggested that the European champions were asking for a fee in the region of €25m but any potential move to England was scuppered by the midfielders €7m-per-season after tax salary demands.
However, Spanish newspaper AS claims that Madrid are ready to drop their asking price to just €10m (£8m) in order to force Khedira out the door as the clubs hierarchy are furious at how he has conducted himself during contract negotiations.
Madrid were made to wait until after the World Cup to hear back from Khedira’s camp about their extension offer, only to be told he wanted a huge pay hike, and it appears this hasn’t gone down well in the Bernabeu boardroom.
AS suggest that Madrid don’t want to let Khedira walk away for nothing next summer so are prepared to take a cut-price €10m now and the paper believes that Arsenal and Chelsea are ready to make a late push for the players signature during the final days of the transfer window.
Khedira was left out of the Madrid squad for Tuesday’s Super Cup clash with Sevilla and the report states that Carlo Ancelotti is prepared to sit him in the stands all season if he doesn’t agree a move away before the end of the month.
This threat is no doubt a ploy to try and get the player to lower his wage demands which should work out well for the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea, as not only will they be able to negotiate more favouable terms with Khedira, but they also have the chance to snap up a world class midfielder for just €10m.
This kind of bargain deal is likely to be hugely tempting to Arsene Wenger in particular as the Gunners boss is on the look-out for a dominant midfielder to play alongside the likes of Aaron Ramsey and Jack Wilshere, and Khedira would be an excellent addition to his squad.

We’ll have to see how things develop over the coming days but it does look like Khedira’s days at Madrid are numbered and we might just see him plying his trade in the Premier League this coming season, but which club he’ll be joining is still very much open for debate.
