£40m Hitman On Wengers Shortlist As Arsenal Boss Lines-Up Striker Targets
Arsene Wenger has drawn up a three-man list of targets including Edinson Cavani, Loic Remy and Danny Welbeck as Arsenal look to bring in a striker this summer
The summer transfer window is now reaching its climax and managers are working hard to make some last minute additions to their squad, so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Gooner Mac brings us news on Arsenal’s striker targets.
Arsene Wenger has drawn up a three-man list of potential targets that includes Edinson Cavani, Loic Remy and Danny Welbeck as Arsenal look to bring in a striker to cover for the injured Olivier Giroud, according to reports today.
News broke late on Monday night that we are facing an injury crisis up front with French newspaper L’Equipe reporting that Giroud is set to miss the next three months after breaking his foot in the dying minutes against Everton on Saturday night.
Arsene Wenger has previously hinted he isn’t in the market for another striker this summer but he’ll have little choice but to make a late dash for another front-man now that our only recognised striker is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
Yaya Sanogo and Joel Campbell are both vastly inexperienced at the top level, while there are widespread rumours suggesting Lukas Podolski is set to leave the club, so it would be suicidal for the boss not to strengthen up top if Giroud’s injury is confirmed.
Thankfully, reports claim that Wenger has already drawn-up a three-man shortlist of targets that’s headed by Paris Saint-Germain hitman Edinson Cavani. The 27-year-old would no doubt be many Arsenal fans first pick as he’s a world class player who would make a real impact, but it’s understood the Uruguayan would cost at least £40m while his wage demands may also be a problem.
Loic Remy is another name supposedly on Arsene’s radar and he’s a far more realistic target in my opinion. The Frenchman has an £8m release clause in his Queens Park Rangers contract and he’d be able to play as a central striker or out wide so he’d give us plenty of options, but he has to be considered a risk after his proposed move to Liverpool collapsed after he failed a medical.
The third name being suggested is that of unsettled Manchester United forward Danny Welbeck. The England international has apparently been told he can leave Old Trafford following the arrival of Angel Di Maria but it may prove difficult to persuade Louis van Gaal to sell to a direct top-four rival.

Obviously Cavani is the stand-out name on the shortlist but it’s going to be extremely difficult for us to pull that deal off during the next 6 days. Of the names mentioned so far, Remy is probably the most likely to come in and I think he’d be a decent addition. Whether he’s good enough to spearhead a title-winning team is another question though….
What striker would you like to see arrive?
