Arsene Wenger ‘Will Meet’ Man Utd Targets €47m Asking Price In January
Arsene Wenger is hoping to beat the likes of Man Utd to the signature of Julian Draxler with the Arsenal boss ready to meet his €47m buy-out clause in January
The summer transfer window may be closed but managers are already thinking ahead to future transfer windows so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Arsenal are once again linked with Julian Draxler.
Arsene Wenger is hoping to beat Manchester United to the signature of Julian Draxler with the Arsenal boss ready to meet the youngsters €47m buy-out clause in January, according to reports.
Draxler has become one of the most highly-rated young attackers in Europe after breaking in to the Schalke first team set-up as a 16-year-old back in 2011, and has gone on to established himself as a regular in Jens Keller’s starting eleven, scoring 28 goals in his 153 appearances so far.
His excellent form has attracted interest from a whole host of top European sides with the likes of Manchester United and Real Madrid understood to be keeping a close eye on his progress.
Arsenal were also strongly linked with the 20-year-old last winter and again throughout the summer but were unable to agree terms with Schalke as the Bundesliga club insisted they wouldn’t accept a penny below the players €47m (£37m) buy-out clause.
However, it seems Arsene Wenger hasn’t given up hope of landing the exciting attacker as the Express are reporting today that the Frenchman is now willing to match his asking price as he looks to revive his injury-hit squad when the transfer window reopens in January.
The Gunners have won just two of their opening seven Premier League fixtures and things have gone from bad to worse on the injury front with Mesut Ozil recently joining the likes of Theo Walcott, Olivier Giroud, Aaorn Ramsey, Mikel Arteta and Mathieu Debuchy on the sidelines.
Arsenal inability to keep their players fit looks to be wearing thin with Wenger and the Express suggest that he is now keen to bring Draxler to the Emirates this winter in order to give him another option in attack.
The newspaper does state that it will be Ozil’s position that may come under threat should the young German make the move, but I think it’s highly unlikely Wenger will give up on his record signing so soon after signing him from Real Madrid, so if Arsenal do manage to sign Draxler then I think it will probably mean Lukas Podolski will be sold while Joel Campbell could also leave the club in order to make room.

It remains to be seen how Man Utd would react should Arsenal match Draxlers buy-out clause, but I personally don’t think Louis van Gaal will be in the marker for any more attackers in January as he’ll most likely concentrate his efforts on strengthening his defence – although some could say Arsene Wenger should be doing the same!
