[Player Ratings] Sunderland 0-2 Arsenal: Sanchez The Shining Light For Gunners

Arsenal secured a 2-0 win away at Sunderland on Saturday afternoon thanks to a double from Alexis Sanchez, who took full advantage of two defensive mishaps from the hosts to seal the three points.

Here are my ratings from the game:

Szczesny  6/10 | Had very little to do in the opening 45 but earned his wages with a few routine stops as Sunderland pushed for an equaliser.

Gibbs 6.5/10 |  Was having a good game until he was forced off with a hip injury. Hopefully it’s not serious as he’d be a huge miss for us, particularly with the problems we’ve already got at the back.

Chambers 6/10 | Steady display from the youngster but I thought he looked more comfortable when he moved into the center of defence late on.

Mertesacker 6.5/10 | A more composed display than in previous weeks as he made some vital clearances.

Monreal  6.5/10 | Solid game alongside Mertesacker but looked more confident when moved out to the left to replace Gibbs.

Arteta 6/10 | Plays a few too many backwards passes for my liking but he did a job in front of the back four.

Flamini 6/10 | Given a bit more license to roam with Arteta in the team but lacked that bit of quality to make things happen.

The Ox 5/10 | Another disappointing display from Chamberlain. His passing was wasteful all afternoon.

Cazorla 5/10 | Wasted two great chance to get on the score-sheet. Really has to work on his finishing.

Sanchez 8/10 | MOTM once again. His ‘never give up’ attitude is a breath of fresh air and it led to two goals today as he forced mistakes from Brown and Mannone. Really deserves more from his team mates right now.

Welbeck 6/10 | Misses a decent chance with a header but otherwise worked hard up top.

Subs:

Bellerin 6/10 | His pace was useful to get him out of a few tricky situations.

Ramsey N/A | Only on for two minutes

Rosicky N/A | Only on for two minutes

Bonaroca: I think that this is one of the worst matches I have seen Arsenal playing” they were just a disjointed side, if it was not for the two errors committed by Sunderland, I reckon they could have been lucky enough to find the net.

A team without bearing, always full of school boy errors. This team is just a collection of wanderers, except sanchez.

@ bonaroca and Olaitan, you need to understand a few things here:
Confidence is built by results over time, not just in a day and Arsenal has not had the results go their way and are therefore devoid of the confidence needed to win matches consistently. Arsenal are not ‘a team of wanderers’ as you’ve said, they are a team full of quality and I’m sure you will see that when they get their confidence back.

We are all gutted we are not winning the way we want to. We are all disappointed Wenger didn’t sign a dominant defensive midfielder and a back-up centre-back, but ARSENAL IS OUR CLUB. The team needs us more in these difficult times than ever. Therefore, such negative comments are not needed at all. You’d do better to keep them to yourselves!
