Player Confirms Interest As Man Utd Eye Audacious Swoop For £40m Chelsea Star
Jose Mourinho will renew his attempts to sign Willian after the Chelsea attacker confirmed the Man Utd boss tried to lure him to Old Trafford last summer
The January transfer window is now closed but we can still look at deals that failed to get across the line and those being lined-up for the summer. Today, could Willian be heading to Man Utd?
Jose Mourinho will renew his attempts to sign Willian after the Chelsea attacker confirmed the Manchester United boss tried to lure him to Old Trafford last summer, according to the Daily Star.
Mourinho signed Willian from Russian outfit Anzhi Makhachkala shortly after returning to Stamford Bridge in the summer of 2013 following a three-year spell at Real Madrid.
The Brazilian international has proven to be a huge hit in west London having helped the Blues win the Premier League title in 2014 and was named as their Player of the Year in 2015.
Mourinho has since taken over the reigns at United and Willian has now claimed that the Portuguese coach showed a keen interest in trying to lure him to Old Trafford last summer.
Willian is quoted as saying by Sky Sports:
“Concrete, I do not know. But there was interest, yes. From Manchester United, because Mourinho is there too.”
A deal failed to materialise but the Daily Star claim that Mourinho will renew his interest in Willian this summer and will make another attempt to take the attacker to Manchester.
The 28-year-old has found his first team place at Chelsea come under threat from Pedro in recent months with the Spaniard often preferred alongside Eden Hazard by Antonio Conte.
And it looks as though Willian is finding it difficult being left on the bench as he’s quoted as saying by the Star:
“No player likes to start the game at the bench.
“To be honest, I do not like it either. I like to be playing all the time.”
Given these comments, Willian may be more open to the idea of joining United this summer if he continues to find himself behind Pedro and Hazard in Conte’s pecking order during the closing stages of the season.
No doubt Chelsea would be reluctant to do business with a rival such as United but the Daily Star suggest they may be persuaded to cash-in if an offer of £40m was put on the table.

We’ll have to wait and see whether United cement their interest in the form of a bid this summer but I expect Mourinho to undertake a busy summer in the transfer market and Willian would be an excellent addition at Old Trafford if they could get a deal done.
