Man Utd Given Green Light To Complete £52.7m Deal After Player Opts For Old Trafford
Manchester United have been given the green light to sign Jerome Boateng in a £52.7m deal after the Bayern Munich star opted for a move to Old Trafford
The summer transfer window is open and managers are working hard on their transfer targets so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, the latest on Jerome Boateng…
Manchester United have been given the green light to sign Jerome Boateng in a £52.7m deal after the Bayern Munich defender opted for a move to Old Trafford, according to reports in Germany via TeamTalk.
Boateng has developed in to one of the best centre-backs in European football since joining Bayern from Manchester City in 2011 and he’s made over 250 appearances to help the German giants win a whole host of honours including 6 Bundesliga titles, 4 domestic cups and the Champions League.
However, the 29-year-old’s future is in doubt as he’s been linked with a move away from the Allianz Arena in search of a fresh challenge this summer and Bayern chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge confirmed last week they are ready to cash-in if a suitable offer arrives.
The situation has seemingly alerted United as Boateng has been linked with a move to Old Trafford in recent weeks with Jose Mourinho looking to sign a top class centre-back this summer.
Victor Lindelof has been tipped to leave United following a disappointing debut season in England and Mourinho needs to find a long-term partner for Eric Bailly with the Ivorian failing to gel with Chris Smalling or Phil Jones.
TeamTalk claim Boateng is on Mourinho’s list of top targets and they cite a report from Bild that says the defender has made United his preferred destination as he seeks a new challenge in the Premier League.
United have now been given the green light to complete a deal as the German publication suggests that Bayern are prepared to do business as long as the Red Devils meet their £52.7m asking price.
That may seem like a lot of money for a player approaching 30 but Boateng is still a superb defender who’d vastly improve United at the back so I think Mourinho will be tempted to push ahead with this proposed deal.

However, any potential transfer will have to wait as Boateng is currently in Russia helping Germany defend their World Cup trophy so we’ll have to wait until the tournament is over to see whether the defender will be joining United.
