Manchester United will look to keep the pressure on the top four with a win over Southampton at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon.

The Red Devils overcame a crippling injury crisis to come away with an impressive 3-1 victory at Crystal Palace on Wednesday night which kept them fifth in the Premier League table – two points ahead of Chelsea and one adrift of fourth-placed Arsenal.

However, with the Gunners facing a tough North London Derby at Wembley on Saturday lunchtime, Man Utd may have the opportunity to climb back in to the top four with a win over Southampton if Arsenal slip-up at Tottenham.

The Saints head in to the game off the back of a 2-0 win over Fulham which has moved Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side two points clear of the relegation zone so they’ll be desperate to secure a positive result tomorrow to aid their survival hopes.

Team news

United will hand Anthony Martial a late fitness test as he looks to return from a groin injury that’s kept him out for the last three games but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer insists he won’t take any chances with the Frenchman.

Marcus Rashford is set for a recall in attack after recovering from an ankle problem that restricted him to a substitutes role at Selhurst Park but Juan Mata, Ander Herrera and Jesse Lingard all remain out with hamstring injuries.

Nemanja Matic is also still out with a muscle issue while Matteo Darmian and Antonio Valencia are still on the sidelines so youngsters James Garner and Mason Greenwood should be in the squad.

Southampton will continue to be without Danny Ings due to a hamstring injury while Mario Lemina is still recovering from an abdominal problem. Michael Obafemi has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a hamstring injury.

Predicted score

Man Utd 2-0 Southampton: United have won just one of their last five league games against Southampton at Old Trafford so they’ve been something of a bogey side in recent years. However, the hosts are in excellent form under Solskjaer and even with a lengthy injury list, I can’t see past a routine United win tomorrow afternoon.
