Preview: Man Utd must beat Huddersfield to keep their top 4 hopes alive
This is a match preview and betting odds article ahead of Manchester United’s Premier League clash with Huddersfield Town on Sunday.
Manchester United know they need a win against Huddersfield Town on Sunday to keep alive their hopes of finishing in the top four this season.
The Red Devils currently sit sixth in the Premier League table following last weekend’s 1-1 draw with Chelsea at Old Trafford and have won just two of their last seven matches in all competitions.
That run has left United three points adrift of fourth-placed Chelsea – who also have a far superior goal difference – with just two games left to play so realistically they need a win on Sunday to stand any chance of snatching a top four place. United are currently the 10/1 fourth favourites with the online sports betting sites to finish in the top four so they desperately need to get back on track tomorrow.
Man Utd should be more than confident of getting back to winning ways as they’ll face a Huddersfield side that were consigned to relegation several weeks ago having amassed just 14 points from their 36 games so far.
Huddersfield have been preparing for Championship football next season for some time but boss Jan Siewert will still want to sign-off a disappointing season with a positive result in their last match at the John Smith’s Stadium this campaign.
Squad news
Man Utd will be without Romelu Lukaku as the Belgian international suffered a hamstring injury against Chelsea last week and is set to miss the final two games of the season.
Marcus Rashford is carrying a shoulder injury but he should be fit to feature on Sunday while Phil Jones is also pushing for a recall after taking part in full training this week.
However, Jesse Lingard and Chris Smalling remain doubts and Eric Bailly has been ruled out for at least a month with a knee injury that he sustained against Chelsea last weekend.
As for Huddersfield, they should welcome Aaron Mooy and Laurent Depoitre back into the squad but Mathias Jorgensen misses out through illness.
Betting odds
Manchester United are the heavy 1/3 favourites with the bookmakers to win on Sunday with Huddersfield priced at 19/2 and the draw 9/2 so we’re expecting a routine away win at the John Smith’s Stadium.
Our prediction is a 3-0 Man Utd win, which can be backed at odds of 8/1, and we also think Marcus Rashford as first goalscorer looks tempting at odds of 7/2. If we combine those bets in a double we get excellent odds of 33/1.
