Man Utd to confirm £9.2m signing on Tuesday after player completes medical
Manchester United will announce the signing of Hannibal Mejbri from Monaco in a £9.2m deal after the youngster completed his medical in Manchester
We’re now at the business end of the summer transfer window and managers are working hard trying to strengthen their squads so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the world. Here, Man Utd are set to unveil Hannibal Mejbri…
Manchester United will announce the signing of Hannibal Mejbri from Monaco in a £9.2m deal after the youngster completed his medical in Manchester, according to Le Parisien.
Mejbri has earned a reputation as one of the most highly-rated youngsters in European football since joining Monaco’s youth system in a £1m deal when he was just 14 and he’s already represented France at various youth levels.
However, the 16-year-old is set to leave Monaco after falling out with the club over a contract dispute and Sky Sports News reported last week that Manchester United were confident of wrapping up a deal to sign Mejbri this summer.
Le Parisien now claims the teenager has been in Manchester over the past few days to complete his medical tests and agree personal terms after United agreed a £9.2m [€10m] deal with Monaco for his signature.
The French publication says Man Utd will pay the Ligue 1 outfit £4.6m [€5m] up front and a further £4.6m [€5m] in bonuses with the deal expected to be officially announced on Tuesday.
According to Le Parisien, Mejbri spoke with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Paul Pogba and Anthony Martial during his visit to Carrington and he’ll sign a five-year professional contract when he turns 17 in January 2020.
Until then, he’ll be on scholarship terms at Old Trafford and the young midfielder is expected to begin life in United’s U18s this season with a view to progressing through the ranks as he gets older.
Mejbri’s imminent signing follows Solskjaer’s transfer policy this summer as the United boss has placed an emphasis on buying young players with huge potential who can develop further at Old Trafford.
Manchester United have already snapped up teenager Daniel James from Swansea while Aaron Wan-Bissaka has arrived from Crystal Palace so Mejbri will be the third highly-rated youngster to join the Red Devils this summer.
