According to The Athletic, Leicester City midfielder Louis Page favours a move to Manchester United over Arsenal during the ongoing transfer window.
The Red Devils have already recruited Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos to reinforce their midfield, and they are now eyeing an emerging talent as a third midfield signing.
The Athletic claim that Man United view Page in the same category as Ayden Heaven, who was immediately placed in the first-team squad after his move from Arsenal last year.
The Gunners are also keen on landing Page this summer, but the 18-year-old prefers to join the Red Devils. United still need to agree on a suitable transfer fee with the Foxes.
Playing time
Page primarily played as a number eight for the Foxes in the Championship last term, making 18 appearances. He caught the eye with his box-to-box ability and would be an exciting addition for the Red Devils.
United currently have Kobbie Mainoo, Mason Mount, Santos and Tielemans as the fit central midfielders. Manuel Ugarte is out for the long-term with a serious knee injury. Bruno Fernandes has exclusively played as a number 10 since manager Michael Carrick took charge.
Page may feel he has more chances of playing time at United. With Mount being injury-prone, the Englishman probably believes he could get some game time in the Cup competitions, at least in the short term.
At Arsenal, his minutes could be non-existent. The Gunners won a long-awaited Premier League title last campaign, and have recently signed a marquee midfielder in Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle United.
Guimaraes and Declan Rice are poised to start in the centre of the park for the north London giants. Alongside them, there is fierce competition through Martin Zubimendi, Mikel Merino and Myles Lewis-Skelly.
With Arsenal expected to challenge for more silverware, they may not experiment with their line-up as much under manager Mikel Arteta.
Hence, we are not surprised that Page is interested in joining the Red Devils over Arsenal. He still won’t come on the cheap despite the Foxes being relegated to the third tier of English football for this season.
Leicester sold 17-year-old Jeremy Monga to Manchester City for £10 million plus add-ons earlier this summer, and will no doubt want a similar package or even more for Page, who is a first-team player.
