Manchester United and Chelsea are reportedly keeping tabs on West Ham United defender El Hadji Malick Diouf, as per TEAMtalk.
After being impressed by the 21-year-old’s performances for Slavia Praha, the Hammers decided to purchase him last summer. During the 2024/25 campaign, he made 10 goal contributions and kept eight clean sheets in 35 appearances across all competitions.
Although the youngster failed to help West Ham avoid relegation last term, he showed glimpses of his qualities, registering five assists and keeping six clean sheets in 32 Premier League appearances. Having proven his worth in club football, Diouf has secured his place in the Senegal national team.
Now, TEAMtalk claim that after being impressed by the African’s recent development at the London Stadium, Man Utd and Chelsea have expressed their interest in him.
They are keeping a close eye on his situation before making a potential swoop. However, Brentford have started making a contract approach to seal the deal.
Despite enduring relegation, West Ham don’t want to let him leave, having already sold Mateus Fernandes and Crysencio Summerville this summer.
However, the report state that Brentford are prepared to sign him by matching the Hammers’ valuation and are ready to launch a £40m bid, including bonuses. Moreover, the player is open to moving to Gtech Community Stadium.
Battle
Diouf is an energetic left-back by trait but is also comfortable in the LWB position. He is quick, strong, can deliver excellent crosses from the flanks, and is also efficient in defensive contributions.
Following Marc Cucurella’s move to Real Madrid, Chelsea are left with Jorrel Hato as their only left-back option. Moreover, Marco Palestra can provide cover in this position if needed.
On the other hand, Luke Shaw has been an undisputed starter in the left-back role for Man Utd over the years. However, he has had numerous fitness problems and has entered the final year of his current contract.
Diouf is a talented player and possesses high potential. So, he might be a shrewd acquisition for Man Utd or Chelsea should either club purchase him.
However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the Old Trafford club or the West London club eventually make a concrete approach to secure his services.
