Chelsea shortlist Bournemouth star Alex Scott as potential Enzo Fernandez replacement

Alex Scott: Bournemouth midfielder rejects new contract amid strong interest from Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United | Football News | Sky Sports

Chelsea star Enzo Fernandez is being linked with a reunion with Enzo Maresca at Manchester City, and although the Blues had set the Citizens a deadline until last Friday to get a deal done, there is the possibility that a transfer can materialise soon.

Fernandez has a £120 million asking price, which Man City might now meet after Rodri’s departure to Barcelona was confirmed earlier on Tuesday, and Chelsea will have enough money to sign a replacement if they earn a nine-figure transfer fee.

English source The Telegraph has reported that Chelsea have shortlisted Bournemouth star Alex Scott, consequent to Enzo Fernandez’s possible exit this summer, and could kickstart official talks for him soon after having an opening bid turned down.

BBC Sport has reported that Bournemouth would be tempted to sell Scott for £80 million this summer, so Chelsea would need to improve their initial £64 million by £16 million more if they are serious about signing the Cherries’ star man.

Ideal Fernandez replacement

Alex Scott promises to be a worthy replacement for Enzo Fernandez at Chelsea this summer. The 22-year-old has an all-round profile and fits into the club’s plans of investing on long-term options.

Scott possesses exceptional energy, which helps him tirelessly work as a dynamic, box-to-box midfielder. His hold-up play and control in tight spaces, tactical intelligence and ball progression make him a top quality player with the ball.

Without possession, Scott marks the opponent very well. He can make well-timed tackles, interceptions and win physical duels, all of which are attributes that have made Fernandez a success at Stamford Bridge and will be vital qualities in his successor.

Xabi Alonso utilised Fernandez from the bench in Chelsea’s friendly against Real Sociedad last Saturday but whether he will be in the mix for their first Premier League game next week will be interesting to see.

If he is not part of the squad, it is fair to say he has more than a foot out of the club and the Blues on their part would need to start looking for replacements with Scott being a fantastic option.
