Chelsea offered the opportunity to sign AC Milan winger Rafael Leao
Chelsea get their Premier League campaign underway next Monday with a clash against Fulham and after a mixed pre-season, it will be interesting to see if there are any major additions to Xabi Alonso’s squad between now and then.
With nearly two weeks of the transfer window still to go, there may be some more signings until the month ends anyways with the Blues now having been presented with a chance to sign AC Milan star Rafael Leao, as per Italian source Gazzetta dello Sport.
Pedro Neto is linked with departing Stamford Bridge and the Portuguese’s potential exit amidst talks with Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal might open the door for Chelsea to acquire another attack, and Leao would be a terrific addition.
He revealed earlier in the summer that he wishes to depart Milan to pursue a new challenge and at a valuation of £43 million on Transfermarkt, the 27-year-old promises to be a cost-effective and high quality acquisition for Chelsea.
Leao a great signing for Chelsea
Rafael Leao has had a successful career at AC Milan, where he developed into one of the world’s best left wingers, and would be a valuable addition at Chelsea regardless of Pedro Neto’s future at the club.
The Blues signed the likes of Alejandro Garnacho and Jamie Gittens among other left wingers in the recent past, and with most of their acquisitions failing to come good, Leao might finally be the medium-term purchase that would work out for them.
Leao’s pace, ability to dribble past multiple defenders and deliver quality crosses into the box will ensure Chelsea create numerous goal-scoring chances. He can also play closer to the goal and make intelligent runs in the box to get on the scoresheet.
With Leao looking to depart AC Milan, personal terms between him and Chelsea might not be a big issue, but it remains to be seen if the two clubs can agree on a transfer fee should the Blues indeed be keen on signing the Portuguese international.
