Tottenham to launch late swoop to sign Neco Williams

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly planning to launch a late swoop to sign Nottingham Forest defender Neco Williams, as per Football Insider.
The Lilywhites have decided to refresh the fullback position by signing Andrew Robertson after letting Djed Spence join Inter Milan this summer. So, they currently have the former Liverpool star plus Pedro Porro and Destiny Udogie as fullback options.
Moreover, Ben Davies can provide cover in this position if needed but he has reached the twilight of his career and has entered the final year of his current contract.
Spurs signed Souza from Santos last winter, but he has found it difficult to break into Roberto De Zerbi’s starting line-up. Andrey Gray has featured in the right-back position in recent times to provide cover for Porro, but he is a midfielder by trait.
So, it appears Tottenham want a new fullback, and Football Insider report that they are interested in Williams. The Lilywhites are even planning to launch a late proposal to test Nottingham Forest’s resolve, as they don’t want to part ways with him.
The 25-year-old is valued at around £24m by Transfermarkt and still has a contract until 2029. So, the Tricky Trees aren’t in any rush to sell him this summer.
Williams is a right-footed versatile fullback as he is comfortable on either side. He is quick, can deliver excellent crosses from the flanks and is efficient in defensive contributions.
Williams to Tottenham
After coming through Liverpool’s youth system, Williams struggled to break into the starting line-up. So, he joined Forest to play regularly and develop his career.
The Welshman initially took time to settle into his new surroundings before displaying promising performances in recent campaigns. In 53 appearances across all competitions, he made six goal contributions last term and helped his side keep 14 clean sheets.
Williams is a talented player and has shown glimpses of his qualities in the Premier League. He is currently at the prime stage of his career, so he might be a shrewd acquisition for Tottenham should they purchase him.
However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually make a concrete approach to secure his services before the end of this transfer window.
