Tottenham Hotspur’s massive spending spree this summer has not yielded the necessary results so far as they have conceded five goals in two Premier League matches, losing 3-0 and 2-0 to Brentford and Newcastle United, respectively.
Roberto De Zerbi has not been able to implement his style of football on the pitch just yet and also questioned the team’s mentality following their latest defeat, but it appears the board is prepared to back him with even more investment in the market.
Spurs are now keen on signing Chelsea forward Mykhailo Mudryk before the transfer window slams shut on Tuesday night, having identified the Ukrainian international as a suitable addition to their underperforming offence.
Journalist Ben Jacobs claims that Tottenham are ‘closing in’ on a deal to sign the winger on loan, with only the ‘final details’ left. Mudryk has already agreed to the move and the two clubs are now in advanced negotiations to seal a deal.
Mudryk has been cleared to play professionally after a 20-month suspension for doping sanctions but has yet to appear in either of Chelsea’s Premier League clubs, with the Blues willing to let him join another club on loan to help regain his feet.
Spurs move for Mudryk
Although he showed glimpses of his quality for Chelsea in pre-season despite coming off a lengthy layoff, it is still a risky move for Tottenham Hotspur to sign Mydryk given his lack of football recently.
The Ukrainian will also face still competition for places at Spurs with Wilson Odobert, Dejan Kulusevski, Mohammed Kudus, Savio and Mathys Tel all competing for places out wide.
Omar Marmoush has also recently joining the club and he’s capable of playing on the wing, too, so Mudryk is likely to find regular first team football hard to come by if he seals a move to North London.
However, it appears a move is now in the pipeline and the 25-year-old looks set to join Tottenham before the window closes at 11pm on Tuesday night.
Leeds United and Sunderland have also been linked with Mudryk, but it appears he’s opted to link-up with former boss Roberto De Zebri having worked together during their time at Shakhtar Donestk.
