Tottenham keen on signing Espanyol’s Roberto Fernandez

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly keen on signing Espanyol forward Roberto Fernandez, as per TEAMtalk.
The 24-year-old moved to RCDE Stadium from Primeira Liga side Sporting Braga on loan in January 2025 before the deal became permanent the following summer.
He showed glimpses of his qualities in La Liga last term, making 10 goal contributions across all competitions. However, the Spaniard has taken his game to another level this season, scoring six goals in seven La Liga appearances.
The forward’s recent eye-catching performances were rewarded with a call-up to the Spanish national team by Luis de la Fuente for the September/October international fixtures.
Now, TEAMtalk claim that after enduring a dire start this season, Tottenham are considering reinforcing the frontline next year. They have identified Fernandez as a serious option after being impressed by his recent promising displays.
However, the North London club will have to overcome stiff competition to finalise the operation as Chelsea and Brighton & Hove Albion are also in this race.
With the player’s existing deal set to run until 2031, Espanyol aren’t in any rush to sell him next year. However, if Spurs launch a lucrative proposal, the Catalan side might let him leave, with the forward valued at around £17m by Transfermarkt.
Fernandez to Tottenham
Fernandez is a 6ft 1in tall right-footed striker. He is quick, strong, good in the air, can hold up the play, and is efficient in finishing off his chances. Moreover, he works hard without possession.
Tottenham decided to reinforce the frontline by purchasing Omar Marmoush this summer, but he has had a difficult start. Moreover, Roberto De Zerbi currently has Dominic Solanke and Richarlison as striker options.
However, the Italian boss has made it clear that the Brazilian won’t be playing this season, while Solanke has displayed inconsistent performances since joining from AFC Bournemouth.
Fernandez is a talented player and hasn’t reached his prime yet. Therefore, he might be a shrewd acquisition for Tottenham should they purchase him.
However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually make a concrete approach to secure the Espanyol star’s services in January or next summer.
