Man Utd remain keen on signing Newcastle’s Lewis Hall

Manchester United reportedly remain keen on signing Newcastle United defender Lewis Hall, as per Sky Sports journalist Danyal Khan.

The 22-year-old initially moved to St James’ Park from Chelsea on loan back in 2023 before the deal became permanent the following year. At first, he featured as a rotational option before establishing himself as a key starter.

Although Newcastle have displayed inconsistent performances under new boss Mathias Jaissle this season, Hall has shown glimpses of his qualities. In seven appearances across all competitions, the Englishman has made three goal contributions and kept two clean sheets.

After being impressed by his performances, Thomas Tuchel selected him in the England national team for the September/October international fixtures.

Now, in the Transfer Talk Podcast, Khan states that Man Utd are planning to reinforce the left-back position next year and Hall is at the top of their wishlist. Apart from the Newcastle star, Michael Carrick’s side are also interested in Myles Lewis-Skelly and Rayan Ait-Nouri.

Khan said:

“I think they are focussed on next summer, Lewis Hall is still very much top [of the list]. I wouldn’t discount Myles Lewis-Skelly, even before the summer, he was someone they really like.”

United wanted to sign a new LB this summer and expressed their interest in Hall, but the Magpies refused to let him leave, having already sold Anthony Gordon, Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes.

Hall to Man Utd

They have managed to tie him down to a fresh long-term contract until 2031. So, Jaissle’s side are in a strong position to demand a huge fee if they are forced to cash-in, with the player valued at around £47m by Transfermarkt.

Hall is a technically gifted left-back. He is quick, strong, can play threading passes between the lines, is efficient in dribbling past opposition defenders in tight areas, and is solid in defensive contributions.

The youngster is a Premier League-proven player and hasn’t reached his prime yet. Therefore, he might be a shrewd acquisition for Man Utd should they purchase him.

However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the Old Trafford club eventually make a concrete approach to secure his services in January or next summer.
