Tottenham now eyeing move for Atletico star Giuliano Simeone

Tottenham Hotspur are exploring a move for Atletico Madrid forward Giuliano Simeone, according to TEAMtalk.

Simeone is part of a current generation of exciting Argentinian talents making an immense impact for their clubs across Europe.

The 23-year-old began his career with River Plate before moving to Atletico’s academy, where he came through the ranks. He had loan spells at Real Zaragoza and Alaves before making his senior debut for Atletico in April 2022, in a 0-0 LaLiga draw against Granada.

Since then, he has gone on to make 112 appearances for the Rojiblancos and has gradually become an indispensable member of the first team.

In the ongoing campaign, Simeone has been key to Atletico’s form, with the team currently sitting in second place after four consecutive LaLiga wins. The right winger has notably provided four goal contributions in eight games for the club this season, with his displays catching the eye.

Now, according to TEAMtalk, Tottenham have explored a deal to sign Simeone from Atletico in recent months.

Exciting forward

The report adds that head coach Roberto De Zerbi is a big admirer of the 23-year-old and sees him as a good fit for his style of play, with Spurs now exploring a possible swoop.

However, Tottenham will face stern competition from Manchester United, who have made enquiries about the Argentine international, as well as Manchester City, according to the report.

With a contract at the Spanish capital that runs until 2030, the report adds that Atletico are not open to Simeone’s departure. As a result, Tottenham will need to submit a significant formal offer well above his £33m Transfermarkt valuation to test the Spanish club’s resolve.

After their draw with Manchester United on Saturday, Tottenham have now failed to win any of their first six league games for the fourth time, previously in 2008-09, 1955-56 and 1912-13.

Despite spending heavily to bolster their frontline with the additions of Omar Marmoush and Savinho from Manchester City in the summer, they’ve netted just three Premier League games, the second fewest only behind Coventry City, who have netted just once.

De Zerbi will hope his attack comes to life on Monday when his side face 19th-place Coventry City at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
