Liverpool plot swoop to sign Chelsea target Alex Scott

Liverpool are reportedly interested in trumping Chelsea in the race to sign AFC Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott, as per TEAMtalk.

After moving to Vitality Stadium from Bristol City, the 23-year-old initially took time to adapt to the Premier League’s physicality before displaying glimpses of his qualities last term.

In 39 appearances across all competitions, the Englishman made five goal contributions. Moreover, he helped his side qualify for the Europa League by finishing sixth in the league.

After being impressed by him, several elite English clubs expressed their interest in signing him this summer. But the Cherries refused to let him leave.

Although Bournemouth have displayed below-average performances this season, Scott has showcased his qualities, making two goal contributions in six appearances in all tournaments.

Having proven his worth in club football, he secured his place in the England national team for the September/October international fixtures. However, he is set to remain sidelined for a few weeks, having sustained a muscular problem with the Three Lions.

Now, TEAMtalk state that Liverpool are considering strengthening the midfield department next year and have identified Scott as a serious option, with Andoni Iraola ready to reunite with his former colleague.

However, Chelsea are also keen on him as a potential replacement for Enzo Fernández and are confident of persuading him to join ahead of Liverpool.

The report state that although Scott has entered the final two years of his current contract with Bournemouth, he has refused to sign a lucrative contract extension.

So, if the Cherries ultimately failed to tie him down to a fresh contract over the coming months, they might be open to letting him leave in January and could demand around £100m as he is now an England international.

Despite selling Curtis Jones this summer, Liverpool decided not to buy a new midfielder. So, Iraola’s side could do with signing a new midfielder next year.

Scott is a versatile, Premier League-proven player and hasn’t reached his prime yet. He even possesses the potential to reach the top. Therefore, he might be a shrewd acquisition for Liverpool or Chelsea should either club eventually manage to secure his services in January or next summer.
