Arsenal lining up winter move for Nicolo Tresoldi

According to The Sun, Arsenal are weighing up a January move for Club Brugge striker Nicolo Tresoldi amid interest from Serie A giants AC Milan.

The Gunners were much fancied to strengthen their attacking department last summer, but they managed just one acquisition in Club Brugge winger Christos Tzolis for £34 million.

The Greece international has been a huge hit with 4 assists in all competitions, but he is currently on the sidelines with a hamstring injury picked up on Nations League duty.

Arsenal presently have Kai Havertz and Viktor Gyokeres as their specialist strikers, but the latter has barely played in the Premier League during the ongoing campaign.

The Swede has got starts in the Carabao Cup and Champions League so far, but has not done enough to prove his credentials. He has yet to find the back of the net this term.

This has spread speculation that Arsenal could enter the transfer market for a new striker, and The Sun claim that they are preparing a winter swoop for Brugge star Tresoldi.

The Germany youth international could be signed for around £42 million this winter. Milan could be Arsenal’s main competition with the player being a boyhood supporter of them.

Huge potential

Tresoldi netted 23 goals and provided 9 assists in 58 appearances last campaign, and he has had a stunning start this season with 9 goals from just 13 appearances for Brugge.

This includes 4 goals in the Champions League from just 3 appearances. He bagged a memorable hat-trick in a 4-3 win over Inter Milan at the San Siro earlier this month.

Aside from his goal scoring, the 22-year-old has excelled with his mobility and link-up play. He is also relatively good in the air, winning 3 aerials per Champions League outing.

Tresoldi has huge potential, and Arsenal will no doubt monitor him closely for the remainder of the year before weighing up a formal bid for his services in the winter transfer window.

Milan have also been mentioned as suitors, but the Gunners could have an upper hand, given they are playing in the Champions League and competing for the Premier League crown.

Milan, meanwhile, are in a transitional phase. They are in the Europa League, but not many fancy them to challenge their fierce rivals Inter for the Scudetto in the current campaign.

If Arsenal were to sign Tresoldi, it could lead to Gyokeres’ winter exit. The Swede could be prepared to move on too in the pursuit of regular league minutes in the prime of his career.
