Arsenal remain keen on signing Atletico Madrid star Julian Alvarez in January

Arsenal are jointly leading the Premier League standings with Manchester City after winning seven out of their first eight matches at the start of the season, and are also unbeaten in three league phase games in the Champions League.

However, the form of their attackers has been a talking point as there has not been a consistent source of goals this season. Bukayo Saka’s form has been particularly underwhelming, while Noni Madueke has also not covered himself in glory.

Likewise, Christos Tzolis had a strong start to the season but has been injured lately, whereas Viktor Gyokeres’ role is peripheral and Eberechi Eze has also not been able to make the most of his minutes as a winger or number 10 for the Gunners.

On that note, The Daily Briefing has reported that Arsenal are set to reignite interest in signing Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez in January after a failed attempt at his purchase earlier in the summer, amidst his desire to join Barcelona.

January move for Alvarez very unlikely

Despite Julian Alvarez’s addition possibly being a massive plus for Arsenal in January owing to his abilities as a left winger as well as a centre forward, the Argentine international looks likely to stay put at Atletico Madrid, at least until next summer.

Following a lengthy saga over a potential swoop to Barcelona, wherein he refused to train and did not start the season at the right match fitness, he has re-entered Diego Simeone’s plans and very recently, Alvarez also issued a public apology to Atleti’s fanbase.

Moreover, Atletico might not see much value in selling him midway through the season as recent events have seen his value drop to a measly £101 million, a significant decrease from the transfer fee in excess of £120 million Alvarez was earlier priced at.

Julian Alvarez might once again look to push for a move to Barcelona next summer and they may be in a better position to afford him, but if not, it would be a good time for Arsenal to revisit his transfer as a January move seems like a tall order for now.
