Liverpool eye move to sign Leeds United’s Tarik Muharemovic

Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing Leeds United defender Tarik Muharemovic, as per TEAMtalk.

Following Jeremy Jacquet and Ronald Araujo’s arrival this summer, the Reds currently have the duo plus Giovanni Leoni, Joe Gomez and Virgil Van Dijk as centre-back options.

However, Leoni has been sidelined due to a serious knee issue for more than a year. On the other hand, Araujo has joined on loan from Barcelona and has mainly featured as a right-back under Andoni Iraola.

Gomez and Van Dijk, meanwhile, have entered the final few months of their respective contracts. The Englishman has had numerous fitness problems in recent years, while the Dutchman has reached the twilight of his career.

As a result, it appears Liverpool are considering purchasing a new defender. TEAMtalk claim that Iraola’s side have expressed their interest in Muharemovic and have been keeping a close eye on his development before making a potential swoop.

However, Inter Milan, Borussia Dortmund, Bayern Munich and Barcelona are also in this race. The Nerazzurri and the Blaugrana are even showing more concrete interest in Muharemovic than Liverpool.

Having recently joined Leeds United from Sassuolo, the 23-year-old still has a contract until 2031. So, the report state that the Peacocks don’t want to let him leave in January and want more than £60m to sell him next summer.

Muharemovic to Liverpool

The Leeds star is a 6ft 4in tall left-footed centre-back. He is technically sound, comfortable playing out from the back, good in the air and efficient in defensive contributions.

Muharemovic has enjoyed a promising start in the Premier League this season, registering two assists and keeping three clean sheets in eight appearances.

Moreover, he has been guiding his side to a European place finish, sitting only two points behind fifth-placed Chelsea. Having proven his worth in club football, Muharemovic has secured his place in the Bosnia and Herzegovina national team’s starting line-up.

The youngster is a talented player and possesses high potential. Therefore, he might be a shrewd acquisition for Liverpool should they purchase him.

However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the Merseyside club eventually make a concrete approach to secure his services in January or next summer.
