MUFC play Stoke City at the Britannia Stadium this evening. MUFC still boast their 100% record with 5 wins from 5, the last one coming against Chelsea last week at Old Trafford in a 3-1 win for the Reds.
Stoke have started the season well with a draw against Chelsea and a win against Liverpool just some of the impressive results. However, last week Stoke lost for the first time this season 4-0 at the Stadium of Light against Sunderland. Stoke also played a Europa League match away in Kiev before the Sunderland match and also went into extra time against Spurs in midweek in a Carling Cup tie. So fatigue could easily come into play.
Stoke have never picked up a point against MUFC since they have been promoted, home or away. The last time these two sides met at the Britannia, it was a memorable win for MUFC and for Javier Hernandez individually. The Mexican scored an impressive brace to help his side be victorious.
Hernandez was the victim of a shocking tackle last week at the hands of Ashley Cole. Reports are suggesting though, that Chicharito may be fit for today’s game along with Danny Welbeck who is also fit to play after a hamstring injury. Chris Smalling is a doubt though after picking up a groin injury last week in the win over Chelsea.
With Stoke always being a major threat when playing at home, MUFC can’t expect everything to go their way. The Potters have entered European Football and made a series of impressive signings to join their already decent squad. Cameron Jerome, Wilson Palacios, Peter Crouch, Jonathan Woodgate and Mathew Upson all made the switch to the Britannia and all have some Premier league experience, some more than others.
MUFC do fear Stoke in a respectful way with Sir Alex Ferguson saying this week:
“Stoke beat Liverpool and drew with Chelsea. They’re making a big impact and are playing European football now. There’s always room for teams to progress in this league and I see Stoke becoming quite an important side.” – Sir Alex Ferguson.
I think the way MUFC are currently playing; they will come away with 3 points. MUFC have looked unbeatable as of late and with all due respect to Stoke, I can’t see MUFC being defeated.
My team
De Gea, P Jones, Ferdinand, Evans, Evra, Nani, Anderson, Fletcher, A Young, Rooney, Chicharito
Predicted Score
My score is 1-2 or 1-3 with Chicharito definitely getting on the scoresheet hopefully.
