Loan Watch: Wellington Silva In Trouble Again | Vela’s Struggles Continue
Arsenal currently have several stars out on loan, here is a summary on how they are getting on at their respective loan-clubs.
James Shea was on the bench for both Dagenham and Redbridge’s games, while midfielder Henri Lansbury remains injured for West Ham. Kyle Bartley missed out on Rangers’ 0-0 draw with St Johnstone after making his comeback from injury just two weeks ago.
Samuel Galindo:
As the Segunda Division does not take a break during Interlulls, the Bolivian’s side Gimnastic de Tarragona have played twice since the last report. However, the midfielder was an unused substitute in both games as his side first won 1-0 away at AD Alcorcon before drawing 0-0 at home to CD Guadalajara.
Carlos Vela:
The forward’s side Real Sociedad remain rooted to the bottom of the La Liga table after a goalless draw at home to Espanyol. Vela, who was recently left out of the Mexican squad for their Internationals, played the full 90 minutes but was unable to grab a goal to help his team to a much needed win. The forward’s lack of goals (0 in 9 league games) may be due to his teams inability to create many chances – they struggled to even keep the ball. Any side that concedes 60% of the possession at home has serious problems and they may be looking at relegation if they can’t turn around their form soon.
Wellington Silva:
The Brazilian was named on the bench for Levante in their 3-2 loss away to Athletico Madrid, despite strongly criticising his club on Twitter. Yet to make a competitive appearance this season, Wellington is understandably frustrated and wants more playing time. However, last season he was told to improve his diet and stop spending as much time on social networking sites. It appears he has not listened to this message and there are reports that he may return to Arsenal in January, although he would likely be quickly loaned out to another club. His former manager at Fluminese also previously criticised the mercurial talent:
“He misses training, arrives late, argues with his father, this has nothing to do with Fluminese. He needs to become a player because right now he still isn’t one.”
Unless the forward greatly improves his attitude, it appears he is unlikely to ever play for Arsenal and will either be repeatedly shipped out on loan or sold to another club.
Denilson:
Sao Paulo have in fact played three times since the last report, notching up two wins and a loss. The midfielder played the final half an hour in their 2-0 victory against Avai. Former Sevilla striker Luis Fabiano grabbed both the goals, but was unable to score in the next game as his side lost 1-0 away to Athletico Paranaense. Denilson played the full 90 minutes of this game, picking up a yellow card right at the end. Fabiano was again on target, scoring twice in Sao Paulo’s 3-1 win at home to America, in which Denilson was not involved.
Nicklas Bendtner:
The Dane played the full 90 minutes against Fulham, but was unable to break the deadlock as the game ended 0-0. Despite multiple chances for both team, neither seemed to have any luck in front of goal; Sunderland hit the woodwork twice within the first 16 minutes, while Westwood made a couple of excellent saves at the other end. Bendtner and Sessegnon caused the Fulham defence problems for much of the game, but it was one of those days where the ball just wouldn’t find its way into the net.
Pedro Botelho:
The Brazilian winger played the final 20 minutes as Rayo Vallecano drew 0-0 away at Osasuna. The home side had little craft and played in a ‘Stoke-like’ manner, peppering their forward with long balls. The pace of Bangoura upfront for Vallecano provided a much greater threat and the referee could easily have sent Flano off for tugging the forward back as he made a break. Botelho’s introduction had little effect as both sides appeared to settle for the draw with some time left.
Joel Campbell:
Campbell was only named on the bench after flying back from Costa Rica in the week, where he scored in their 2-2 draw with world champions Spain. The striker came on after 67 minutes as Lorient attempted to come back from 2-1 away at Evian; however he could not get the goal as the home team held on for the win.
Luke Freeman:
The 19 year old striker made his first appearance for Stevenage, after recently moving there on loan until January. He played the full 90 minutes up front and although he got in a couple of shots, he was unable to beat Ben Alnwick, who was in goal for Leyton Orient. In fact, neither team was able to get the goal and the league one teams shared the points, leaving newly promoted Stevenage in 7th position.
