Manchester United to cash in on Bulgarian striker?
By Chris Woodruff.
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is thought to be ready to offload out of form striker Dimitar Berbatov, despite having given countless reassurances that the 29 year old would not be sold over the summer. Reports coming from Italy are suggesting that both AC Milan and Juventus are preparing offers of around £18 million for the attacker, a figure which may convince Ferguson into selling as he attempts to recoup as much money from the player as possible before his value deteriorates further.
The former Tottenham forward moved to Old Trafford for a fee of £30.75 million in the summer of 2008, with many drawing comparisons between the Bulgarian and Manchester United legend Eric Cantona. However, despite showing glimpses of genius over his two years at the club, many fans have become impatient with Berbatov, who has failed to produce his best form at a consistent enough level in a United shirt.
Bundesliga champions, and Champions League runners up Bayern Munich along with fellow Germans Shalke 04 are also said to be interested in bringing Berbatov back to the league in which he enjoyed 6 successful seasons at Bayer Leverkusen between 2000-2006.
Berbatov, a former captain and all time top goalscorer for the Bulgarian national side has scored a total of 26 goals from 86 games for the Red Devils, however if these latest rumours are to be believed, this tally may not be improved upon in next seasons campaign.
Would Manchester United fans be glad or sad to see Berbatov go?
