With the January transfer window now open for business we’ll be keeping you up-to-date with all the latest transfer gossip. Today, Arsene Wenger confirms interest in Cavani and Zaha.
Some interesting news coming out of Arsene Wenger’s press conference today Gooners with the boss confirming his interest in Napoli striker Edinson Cavani and Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha, according to the Mirror.
Despite a whole host of names being linked with us in recent months, it’s been a quiet transfer window in north London so far, but the Mirror claim Wenger has been assured by the club’s board that there’s money to spend and the boss has confirmed Cavani and Zaha are both on his radar.
Speaking at his weekly press conference today, Wenger was asked about his interest in Uruguayan striker Cavani, to which he replied:
“He would cost a lot of money. Our banker lives nearby he’s ready if we need him. I like him as a player.”
Wenger is quoted as saying by the Mirror.
Wenger was also quizzed about Palace youngster Zaha and again the boss confirmed Arsenal are monitoring his situation but it seems we may face competition from Man Utd for his signature.
“We are looking at him but at the moment we have not made any bid for him.
“I don’t know if Manchester United are in for him. Anyway, if you call any club for any player, they will tell you Man United, Milan, Real Madrid are as well in for him but it is always difficult to know if it is true or not.” Wenger is quoted as saying by the Mirror.

While it’s always nice to be linked with players like Cavani, I won’t be getting too excited about the possibility of him coming to the Emirates just yet. He would surely be well out of our price range. Don’t get me wrong, he would be a dream signing and would certainly transform our attacking line-up, but I just can’t see anything coming of it.
Zaha is more realistic but unfortunately I don’t see him having the immediate impact on the first team like Cavani could. No doubt he’s a talented lad, but Zaha is still raw and would need a lot of work to make him a first team contender.
So, just under two weeks to go in the January transfer window, let’s see what the boss brings us.
