Arsenal Fail With £9m Bid But Liverpool Remain Confident Of Landing Williams
Liverpool remain confident of landing Swansea City captain Ashley Williams despite Arsenal having a £9million bid reected in January, according to the Guardian.
Despite the transfer window being closed there is still plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Liverpool are confident of landing Ashley Williams ahead of Arsenal.
Liverpool remain confident of landing Swansea captain Ashley Williams despite Arsenal having a £9m bid reected in January, according to the Guardian.
Williams has been excellent at the back for Swansea over the past 2 years, helping the Welsh outfit cement themselves as an established Premier League side as well as leading Michael Laudrup’s men to the League Cup with a 5-0 win over Bradford at Wembley in February.
The 28-year-old’s consistent performances appear to have alerted some of the Premier League big-boys with the Guardian claiming Arsenal saw a £9m bid rejected during the January transfer window, but boss Arsene Wenger is expected to return with an improved offer in the summer as he looks to add an established leader to his central defence.
However, the newspaper suggests that Liverpool are confident they can land Williams at the end of the season with Brendan Rodgers’ close relationship with the player believed to be a key factor as well as the fact the Welshman is understood to have grown up a Liverpool fan – leading the club to believe he would favour a move to Anfield over the Emirates.
The Reds are expected to be on the look-out for defensive reinforcements this summer with Jamie Carragher retiring at the end of the season and they could do a lot worse than looking to Williams. However, he’ll turn 29 in August so I can’t imagine they or Arsenal will be too keen to pay much more than the £9m the Londoners were reported to have tabled in January.
