Chelsea Open Talks Over Cavani After Tabling £34.9m Hulk Bid
Chelsea have opened talks over a move for £50m-rated Napoli striker Edinson Cavani as well as tabling a £34.9million bid for Zenit St Petersburg hitman Hulk.
With the summer transfer window set to open, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Chelsea make moves for Cavani and Hulk.
Some exciting news for Chelsea fans this morning with the Daily Mail reporting that the club have opened talks over a move for £50m-rated Napoli striker Edinson Cavani as well as tabling a £34.9m bid for Zenit St Petersburg hitman Hulk.
New Blues boss Jose Mourinho seems intent on adding to his strike-force this summer and the report claims he is also confident of landing Fiorentina’s £25m-rated striker Stevan Jovetic while a move for Edin Dzeko could be made if they lose out on Cavani to either Man City or Real Madrid.
Napoli president Aurelio de Laurentiis confirmed on Thursday night that Chelsea were in for the Uruguayan forward and he was expecting further talks to take place imminently.
‘There is interest from Chelsea in Cavani, they’ll call me in the next few hours. I’ll be delighted if he stays, but if he leaves then he will be adequately replaced.’ de Laurentiis is quoted as saying by the Mail
Brazilian striker Hulk also confirmed that the Europa League winners wanted to take him to west London. When asked about a reported bid from Chelsea, the 25-year-old told reporters at a Brazilian press conference yesterday:
‘If I said there wasn’t anything in it, I would be lying. But that is not for now. At the moment, I am 100 per cent focused on the Selecao (Portuguese for the Brazil team). Other matters will have to wait until afterwards.’ Hulk is quoted as saying by the Mail
The Mail claim that Zenit have rejected Chelsea’s opening bid of £34.9m as they want to hold out for nearer the £44m they paid Porto last summer, but it’s understood the offer will remain on the table as the Blues are confident the lack of alternative bids will force the Russians into accepting.
If this news is accurate it looks like it’s going to be an exciting summer at Stamford Bridge and Jose Mourinho appears to be showing a real intent to build a squad capable of challenging for the Premier League and Champions League next season.
However, should they manage to lure Hulk, Cavani and possibly even Jovetic to west London it will surely throw the futures of Demba Ba, Fernando Torres and Romelu Lukaku into doubt.
